February, 2013

RECENT HAPPENINGS:

Palatine Chapter #206 had its January Convocation last night, the 16th.  We had a guest speaker, Brother Aaron Wilcox, who gave us a nice talk on Pythagoras, his life, and its connection to Freemasonry.  It was very well done.  We had a nice dinner beforehand, compliments of Andrew Michyeta.  There were 32 people in attendance, counting some ladies and guests.  Our High Priest, Ralph Palmer, was very happy to be a part of this special event.

Our February convocation will be on the 20th.  Hope to see you all there.  Dinner at 6:30.

Loyal L. Munn Chapter #96 had its stated convocation on January 2, 2013.  We opened on the Chapter and did some business.  Had a dinner prior to the convocation at 6:30 PM.  High Priest Jim Newby looks a little different.  He shaved off his beard.

Both Palatine Royal Arch Chapter had an extra convocation on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, to take care of a little extra business and do some planning for the near future.  We had nine companions out and it was a good meeting.

Cryptic Council #46 had its stated assembly on January 2, 2013.  We opened on the Chapter, but did some Council business as well.  We had a dinner prior to the assembly at 6:30 PM.  Our next assembly will be on February 6, 2013.  Dinner at 6:30 PM, assembly at 7:30 PM.

Bethel Commandery had its Christmas Libations on Wednesday, December 19, 2012.  We had a nice dinner at 6:30, and then the Ceremonies at 7:30 PM.  We had lined up a minister to give us a short Christmas presentation, but her church gave her an assignment that evening, and since they pay her and we do not, she opted to follow the church's direction.  Good decision.  In place of that talk we had a Christmas Biblical Quiz that all present took part in.  It was quite interesting and we had "much discussion" on some of the quiz answers.  We all left a little smarter, biblically.  We also read the Christmas readings and toasts from the Grand Commandery and Grand Encampment.  The readings were done by our Commander, Robert Prinzing, our Generalissimo, Ralph Palmer, our Grand Generalissimo, Russell Schlosser, and our Grand Standard Bearer, Andrew Michyeta.  Our Past Commander Richard Pugh lead the singing of the Christmas Carols.  Unfortunately, Bonnie Canby, our organist, could not be there due to health reasons.  We wish her well.  All in all, it was a nice evening.

Bethel Commandery also co-hosted the guest speaker on 1-16-13, Aaron Wilcox.  We will try to include a photo of Aaron with this article.

We are looking at possibly doing the Red Cross and Malta on February 20, 2013, if either of our two candidates are available.  We will keep you posted.

As a result of Ralph Palmer's idea, we have been sending Birthday Cards to the residents of the Illinois Knights Templar Home at Paxton, IL, for the last two months.  We are continuing each month.  Thank you, Ralph.  We also sent Christmas Cards to all the residents in December, also at Ralph's suggestion.

Several of us are traveling in February to Reston, VA, for the AMD weekend.  They moved it to Reston, near Dulles Airport.  We will see how that works out.

I have added some upcoming dates that are obvious, however, we will be letting the Presiding Officers of the four Palatine bodies set the schedule for the rest of the year.  It is really their job and they will feel more as owners of the schedule if they actually do it.

Bethel Commandery has come out with another belt
buckle for sale for benefit of the Knights Templar Eye
Foundation, Inc.  This one is a Royal Arch
Chapter buckle, with the triple tau, and with the
infamous words "Holiness to the Lord"
emblazoned thereon.  This buckle has been commissioned
in honor of Brother, Companion,
and Sir Knight David P. Miller, Past Grand High Priest
and member of the Palatine
York Rite.  It will sell for $50, just as the Knights
Templar
buckle did last year.  We also we able to
obtain a few more Knights Templar buckles since we
had more orders than we could fill.  Let me know if
you are interested.

Our loyal Companion and Sir Knight Jim Newby has volunteered to coordinate the degree work going forward.  Thank you, Jim. He will also work with the Officers of the four respective bodies.  The following is what we have printed for some time.  "As a reminder, at our planning meeting on April 4,
2007, we tentatively decided to appoint one member as
a "Degree Czar" for each of the Palatine York Rite
Bodies.  That would be four individuals.  The thought
was that the number two man in each body would fill
that need.  We need to get more people trained in our
Degree Ritual so we have a backup for each part.
Right now, if certain people are out of town, we are
stuck.  This will also get some of our newer members
actively involved in the affairs of our four York Rite
Bodies.  This will also get the number two man in each
group more prepared for his year as Presiding Officer.
Planning and Preparation.

The York Rite offers many opportunities for us to
serve our fellow man and our communities.  Each of the
Bodies has a charity or several charities that we
support.  Membership in our York Rite Bodies allows us
to fulfill our Obligations and Vows to help those who
are less fortunate.  Let us keep this in our minds as
we go about our daily endeavors.  There is a cloud
surrounding us, that has been built up over the
centuries, that we are a secret organization.  Now is
the time to let those on the outside know who we are.
We should not keep our lamps under the bushel, but
should let our Light so shine before men, that they
may see our good works, and glorify our Father, which
is in Heaven.

Palatine Chapter currently has 173 members.  Bethel
Commandery now has 198 members.  Of these, 94 are life
members and 13 are 50-year members and are exempt from
Dues.

As a reminder, the new Palatine Masonic Temple is all on one floor and at
ground level.  Therefore it is wheelchair accessible.  No ramp or chairlift
needed.

Our backlog of work is:  Palatine Chapter #206-1;
Loyal L. Munn Chapter #96-0; Cryptic Council #46-1;
Bethel Commandery #36-3.  Let's get those Petitions
in.
