January 2014

RECENT HAPPENINGS:

Palatine Chapter #206, along with L L Munn Chapter #96, conferred the Royal Arch Degree on James Edgell on November 20, 2013.  We were honored to have James Patton as High Priest and Hardy Evans as Principle Sojourner for the evening.  Our next convocation will be on the 18th of December, but were are allocating that night to the Commandery for Christmas Libations.  See you there.  Our next convocation will be on January 15, 2014, when we are scheduled to confer the Mark master and Past Master Degrees, at least. (maybe the Most Excellent Master as well)

Loyal L Munn Chapter #96 had its Stated Convocation on December 4, 2013.  We had a dinner prior to the meeting.  The meeting was used for the Cryptic Council who conferred the Council Degrees that night.  Our next convocation is supposed to be on January 1, 2014, but since that is New Year's Day, it is cancelled.  We will meet next on February 5, when we are scheduled to confer the 6th Degree.  That may change to the 7th Degree.  Stay tuned.

Cryptic Council #46, Cryptic Masons, had its most recent Assembly on December 4, 2013.  We had a nice dinner prior to the Assembly.  We conferred the Royal and Select Master Degrees on James Edgell.  We were missing a couple of key players due to travel, etc, so we were honored to have Dale Corrice and Michel Millette visit us and help with the degree work.  It worked out fine and James Edgell is a proud Cryptic Mason.  We received Louis Sands, our District Inspector, who is also a Past Master of Cryptic Council.  Our next Assembly is supposed to be on January 1, 2014, but since that is New Year's Dauy, it is cancelled.  We will meet on February 5th.  Chapter work is planned for that evening.

Bethel Commandery #36 visited Austin Commandery #84 for their Annual Inspection on November 23, 2013, at Glenview.  We had eight Sir Knights from bethel who attended, which were: Ralph palmer, Gary Berenger, Russell Schlosser, Andrew Michyeta, Louis Sands, Frank Del Giudice, David Truax, and Brad Baker.  Nice showing.  Most of us got to take some parts.  Three Sir Knights from Bethel attended St. Elmo Commandery #64 Inspection on Saturday the 14th of December at Chicago.  Attending from Bethel were Russell Schlosser, Andrew Michyeta, and Brad Baker.  They had a nice day as well.  We all got to take part.  Our next event is our Christmas Libations on the 18th of December.  We are having a guest speaker and hopefully the weather will hold out for us.  Will let you know how it transpired next article.  Bethel's next conclave will be on January 15th, when we will be doing Chapter work.

Our Commander, Ralph Palmer, is putting out the call for Christmas Baskets for the needy this December.  All Sir Knights are asked to donate some non-perishable (canned and boxed) food items for Christmas dinners.  Please bring these items to the Lodge in early December where they will be assembled.  We will be working with other groups to make this happen.

Ralph Palmer is also having Commandery practices on the off Wednesdays to prepare for our Annual Inspection on April 12, 2014.  Ralph would like all the work to be done by members of Bethel Commandery and by the Officers in their Stations.  Of course another way to learn your parts is to attend some of the Commandery Inspections on Saturday's throughout the winter and spring.  A list of the Chicago area Inspections is at the bottom of this article.

As a result of Ralph Palmer's idea, we have been sending Birthday Cards to the residents of the Illinois Knights Templar Home at Paxton, IL, this past year.  We are continuing each month.  Thank you, Ralph.  We also sent Christmas Cards to all the residents in December, also at Ralph's suggestion.

Bethel Commandery has come out with another belt
buckle for sale for benefit of the Knights Templar Eye
Foundation, Inc.  This one is a Royal Arch
Chapter buckle, with the triple tau, and with the
infamous words "Holiness to the Lord"
emblazoned thereon.  This buckle has been commissioned
in honor of Brother, Companion,
and Sir Knight David P. Miller, Past Grand High Priest
and member of the Palatine
York Rite.  It will sell for $50, just as the Knights
Templar
buckle did last year.  We also we able to
obtain a few more Knights Templar buckles since we
had more orders than we could fill.  Let me know if
you are interested.

Our loyal Companion and Sir Knight Jim Newby has volunteered to coordinate the degree work going forward.  Thank you, Jim. He will also work with the Officers of the four respective bodies.  The following is what we have printed for some time.  "As a reminder, at our planning meeting on April 4,
2007, we tentatively decided to appoint one member as
a "Degree Czar" for each of the Palatine York Rite
Bodies.  That would be four individuals.  The thought
was that the number two man in each body would fill
that need.  We need to get more people trained in our
Degree Ritual so we have a backup for each part.
Right now, if certain people are out of town, we are
stuck.  This will also get some of our newer members
actively involved in the affairs of our four York Rite
Bodies.  This will also get the number two man in each
group more prepared for his year as Presiding Officer.
Planning and Preparation.

The York Rite offers many opportunities for us to
serve our fellow man and our communities.  Each of the
Bodies has a charity or several charities that we
support.  Membership in our York Rite Bodies allows us
to fulfill our Obligations and Vows to help those who
are less fortunate.  Let us keep this in our minds as
we go about our daily endeavors.  There is a cloud
surrounding us, that has been built up over the
centuries, that we are a secret organization.  Now is
the time to let those on the outside know who we are.
We should not keep our lamps under the bushel, but
should let our Light so shine before men, that they
may see our good works, and glorify our Father, which
is in Heaven.

Palatine Chapter currently has 173 members.  L L Munn has about 75 members.  Bethel
Commandery now has 201 members.  Of these, 94 are life
members and 13 are 50-year members and are exempt from
Dues.

As a reminder, the new Palatine Masonic Temple is all on one floor and at
ground level.  Therefore it is wheelchair accessible.  No ramp or chairlift
needed.

Our backlog of work is:  Palatine Chapter #206-2;
Loyal L. Munn Chapter #96-0; Cryptic Council #46-3;
Bethel Commandery #36-2.  Let's get those Petitions
in.

Sickness and distress:  Not really sickness, but we have heard that Dolores Hoeckelberg has moved back to Elgin from Arizona since Bob died recently, to be near her children who are in the area.
