March 2013

Palatine Chapter #206, Royal Arch Masons, will have its February Convocation this week on Wednesday, February 20, 2013.  There is no degree worked planned, but a business meeting, the Keystone Quest, some planning for the future, and a dinner beforehand.  I am sure there will be discussion on our progress with the High Priest's Leadership Award and Chapter of the Year Award.  I am sure the Chapter will open in Full Form with High Priest Ralph Palmer leading the charge.  We have heard that Palatine Chapter qualified for the next round of the Keystone Quest.  This is Great!  Our March Convocation will be on March 20, 2013.  It is the night of our Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner, as sponsored by the Commandery.  Come on out!

Loyal L. Munn Chapter #96 had its most recent Stated Convocation on February 6, 2013.  We opened on the Chapter and did some business.  Had a dinner prior to the convocation at 6:30 PM.  High Priest Jim Newby cooked the dinner.  It was a skeleton meeting because many of our members were in Reston, VA, for the AMD weekend.  I am sure it was fulfilling for those able to attend.  We have also heard that Loyal L. Munn Chapter qualified for the next level of the Keystone Quest.  We should be competing in short order.  L L Munn's next Convocation will be on March 6, 2013. Dinner at 6:30 PM.

Cryptic Council #46 had its most recent Stated Assembly on February  6, 2013.  We opened on the Chapter, but did some Council business as well.  We had a dinner prior to the assembly at 6:30 PM.  Our next Assembly will be on March 6, 2013.  Dinner at 6:30 PM, assembly at 7:30 PM.

Bethel Commandery #36, Knights Templar, had a short Conclave on February 6, 2013.  Many of our active members were in Reston, VA, with the Allied Masonic Degrees (AMD) weekend.  We had a good time.  Many of us advanced to the III degree of Solar White Quarry, Operatives.  I hope I got that name right.  Our next big event will be the Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner on March 20, 2013, for benefit of the Illinois Knights Templar Home Endowment Fund at Paxton, IL.  Please join in!

Several of us have been to Commandery Inspections in recent weeks.  This past Saturday, the 16th, was Calvary #25 in Cary, IL.  We had Frank Del Giudice doing Sword Bearer, David Truax doing Warder, Andrew Michyeta, III, doing Commander, and Bradley Baker doing Prelate.  Many of Calvary's regular members were present and had parts.  It was a great day.  Drew Michyeta and Bradley Baker are both plural members of Calvary.  On a sad note, however, one of Calvary's most staunch members, and past Commander, was killed in a car accident in Boone County about two weeks ago.  Robert Butzow, retired pharmacist, District Deputy for the Grand Lodge, and one of the nicest guys you would ever meet, is no longer with us.  The last time we saw him was January 16th, at our meeting Palatine, where he came to listen to our guest speaker.  On February 2, 2013, several of us were at Aurora Commandery #22, which has moved back to Aurora, after being gone for about 26 years.  It was a nice day with several candidates.  Russell Schlosser was the Inspecting Officer and Drew Michyeta and Bradley Baker were present and helped out, Bradley Baker as Commander and Drew Michyeta as Aide to the Inspecting Officer (Division Commander as it is now called).  Coming up is Evanston Commandery #58, on the 23rd of February, and Joliet #4 on the 2nd of March.

At the Allied Masonic Degrees weekend in Virginia, we had five Past Commanders of Bethel Commandery present:  Robert Bigley, Russell Schlosser, Andrew Michyeta, III, Louis Sands, and Bradley Baker.  In addition, our Generalissimo, Ralph Palmer, was present.  Many others from illinois were there.  Those I can remember are:  Jesse Johns, H. Wayne Hoffman, Joe Lucas, D. Marc Wilson, Jeffrey Cook, Ken Smith, William Jegen, Craig Stimpert, Robert Cronk, Robert Martin, William Farris, Charles Bremner, Johnathan Barnes, Eric Diamond, Stanley Boyd, Gary Hermann, and Edward Choate.  May have missed a couple, but that is the best I can do.

As a result of Ralph Palmer's idea, we have been sending Birthday Cards to the residents of the Illinois Knights Templar Home at Paxton, IL, for the last three months.  We are continuing each month.  Thank you, Ralph.  We also sent Christmas Cards to all the residents in December, also at Ralph's suggestion.

I have added some upcoming dates that are obvious, however, we will be letting the Presiding Officers of the four Palatine bodies set the schedule for the rest of the year.  It is really their job and they will feel more as owners of the schedule if they actually do it.

Bethel Commandery has come out with another belt
buckle for sale for benefit of the Knights Templar Eye
Foundation, Inc.  This one is a Royal Arch
Chapter buckle, with the triple tau, and with the
infamous words "Holiness to the Lord"
emblazoned thereon.  This buckle has been commissioned
in honor of Brother, Companion,
and Sir Knight David P. Miller, Past Grand High Priest
and member of the Palatine
York Rite.  It will sell for $50, just as the Knights
buckle did last year.  We also we able to
obtain a few more Knights Templar buckles since we
had more orders than we could fill.  Let me know if
you are interested.

Our loyal Companion and Sir Knight Jim Newby has volunteered to coordinate the degree work going forward.  Thank you, Jim. He will also work with the Officers of the four respective bodies.  The following is what we have printed for some time.  "As a reminder, at our planning meeting on April 4,
2007, we tentatively decided to appoint one member as
a "Degree Czar" for each of the Palatine York Rite
Bodies.  That would be four individuals.  The thought
was that the number two man in each body would fill
that need.  We need to get more people trained in our
Degree Ritual so we have a backup for each part.
Right now, if certain people are out of town, we are
stuck.  This will also get some of our newer members
actively involved in the affairs of our four York Rite
Bodies.  This will also get the number two man in each
group more prepared for his year as Presiding Officer.
Planning and Preparation.

The York Rite offers many opportunities for us to
serve our fellow man and our communities.  Each of the
Bodies has a charity or several charities that we
support.  Membership in our York Rite Bodies allows us
to fulfill our Obligations and Vows to help those who
are less fortunate.  Let us keep this in our minds as
we go about our daily endeavors.  There is a cloud
surrounding us, that has been built up over the
centuries, that we are a secret organization.  Now is
the time to let those on the outside know who we are.
We should not keep our lamps under the bushel, but
should let our Light so shine before men, that they
may see our good works, and glorify our Father, which
is in Heaven.

Palatine Chapter currently has 173 members.  Bethel
Commandery now has 198 members.  Of these, 94 are life
members and 13 are 50-year members and are exempt from
