November 2013

Palatine Chapter #206 has had two Stated Convocations this year, one in September and one in October.  On September 18, 2013, the Commandery used the night for the Red Cross and Malta Orders.  we did receive and ballot on two Petitions for the Chapter.  Also had a good dinner prior to the meeting.  We conferred the Mark Master and Past Master Degrees on James Edgell.  The second candidate could not make it due to a conflict.  The Grand High Priest, Alan Hubble, was present, as well as the Grand Captain of the Host, James Tome.  Alan was received as Grand High Priest by our High Priest, Mark Nokes, and gave a nice talk on the Grand Chapter Programs.  Alan also brought some lapel pins as a fund-raiser for the Grand Chapter Charity, support for Autism programs at Illinois Masonic Medical Center.  Many of  the companions purchased these.  James Tome presented a nice certificate to Palatine Chapter and Past High Priest, Ralph Palmer, for Palatine receiving recognition for the Award of Excellence this past year.  I hope to have a couple photos of that meeting with this article.  We are scheduled for the Most Excellent Master Degree on November 6, 2013.  Dinner at 6:30 PM.

Loyal L Munn Chapter #96 had its Stated Convocation on October 2, 2013.  We had a dinner prior to the meeting.  The Commandery used the night for the Order of the Temple.  Our next Convocation will be on November 6, 2013.  We will be conferring the Most Excellent Master Degree for a Palatine candidate.  We assisted Palatine Chapter in conferring the Mark Master and Past Master Degrees on October 26, 2013.  Our High Priest, James B. Newby, was the Right Worshipful Master in the Mark Master Degree.  Our Scribe, James N. Newby, was the Senior Warden in that Degree and our King, Bradley Baker, was the Master Overseer in that Degree and the Right Worshipful Master in the Past Master Degree.  L L Munn Chapter is doing its bit.  We do need a couple candidates and will be working on that.  We will be assisting Palatine Chapter in the Most Excellent Master and Royal Arch Degrees in November.  The Grand High Priest, Alan Hubble, brought some pins for a fund-raiser for the Grand Royal Arch Chapter Charity, support Autism programs at Illinois Masonic Medical Center.  Several companions of L L Munn Chapter purchased these lapel pins.  Remember, dinners at 6:30 at all meetings.  The new Palatine Masonic Temple has a brand new kitchen.  We are using it.

Cryptic Council #46, Cryptic Masons, had its most recent Assembly on October 2, 2013.  The night was used by the Commandery for the Order of the Temple.  However, we did received two Petitions for the Degrees.  We are scheduled to confer the Royal and Select Master Degrees on December 4, 2013.  Start making plans now.  These Degrees are beautiful and really continue the marvelous story which starts in the Lodge, continues in the Chapter, and then is enhanced in the Council.  Our Thrice Illustrious Master, Gary Berenger, is getting ready for December.  Come on out!.  Dinner at 6:30 PM.

Bethel Commandery #36, Knights Templar, conferred the Illustrious Order of the Red Cross and Order of Malta in September and the Order of the Temple on October 2, 2013.  The new Sir Knights are Karl Nygard and Stephen Grimm.  The entire slate for all three Orders was made up of members of Bethel Commandery #36.  Many of the Stations were done by Sir Knights who were new in those positions.  Great job!  Our Commander, Ralph Palmer, has been having practices on the off Wednesdays.  Great start for the year.  The end of October, the 30th, we will be traveling to the Illinois Knights Templar Home at Paxton and supporting the October Banquet.  Any and All are welcome.  Ladies, as well.  Bethel Commandery has been supporting this banquet long before I was a member, and that has been 28 years.  We get to serve the residents and then dine ourselves.  While there we can take a nice tour of the Home.  It is the only Knights Templar Home in the world.  Our next major event after that is the Christmas Libations on December 18, 2013.  Dinner at 6:30 PM, and then the Libation Speaker and ceremonies.  Families welcome.

The Grand Commandery of Illinois had a table a Grand Lodge.  Our own Andrew Michyeta, III, was present at that table to answer questions presented to the Grand Commandery.

As a result of Ralph Palmer's idea, we have been sending Birthday Cards to the residents of the Illinois Knights Templar Home at Paxton, IL, this past year.  We are continuing each month.  Thank you, Ralph.  We also sent Christmas Cards to all the residents in December, also at Ralph's suggestion.

A big thank you to Frank Del Giudice, and his sidekick Gordon Colditz, for being our Armorer.  They are doing a fine job of handling our paraphernalia.

Bethel Commandery has come out with another belt
buckle for sale for benefit of the Knights Templar Eye
Foundation, Inc.  This one is a Royal Arch
Chapter buckle, with the triple tau, and with the
infamous words "Holiness to the Lord"
emblazoned thereon.  This buckle has been commissioned
in honor of Brother, Companion,
and Sir Knight David P. Miller, Past Grand High Priest
and member of the Palatine
York Rite.  It will sell for $50, just as the Knights
Templar
buckle did last year.  We also we able to
obtain a few more Knights Templar buckles since we
had more orders than we could fill.  Let me know if
you are interested.

Our loyal Companion and Sir Knight Jim Newby has volunteered to coordinate the degree work going forward.  Thank you, Jim. He will also work with the Officers of the four respective bodies.  The following is what we have printed for some time.  "As a reminder, at our planning meeting on April 4,
2007, we tentatively decided to appoint one member as
a "Degree Czar" for each of the Palatine York Rite
Bodies.  That would be four individuals.  The thought
was that the number two man in each body would fill
that need.  We need to get more people trained in our
Degree Ritual so we have a backup for each part.
Right now, if certain people are out of town, we are
stuck.  This will also get some of our newer members
actively involved in the affairs of our four York Rite
Bodies.  This will also get the number two man in each
group more prepared for his year as Presiding Officer.
Planning and Preparation.

The York Rite offers many opportunities for us to
serve our fellow man and our communities.  Each of the
Bodies has a charity or several charities that we
support.  Membership in our York Rite Bodies allows us
to fulfill our Obligations and Vows to help those who
are less fortunate.  Let us keep this in our minds as
we go about our daily endeavors.  There is a cloud
surrounding us, that has been built up over the
centuries, that we are a secret organization.  Now is
the time to let those on the outside know who we are.
We should not keep our lamps under the bushel, but
should let our Light so shine before men, that they
may see our good works, and glorify our Father, which
is in Heaven.

Palatine Chapter currently has 173 members.  L L Munn has about 75 members.  Bethel
Commandery now has 201 members.  Of these, 94 are life
members and 13 are 50-year members and are exempt from
Dues.

As a reminder, the new Palatine Masonic Temple is all on one floor and at
ground level.  Therefore it is wheelchair accessible.  No ramp or chairlift
needed.

Our backlog of work is:  Palatine Chapter #206-2;
Loyal L. Munn Chapter #96-0; Cryptic Council #46-3;
Bethel Commandery #362.  Let's get those Petitions
in.

Sickness and distress:  None Reported.
