Palatine Chapter #206, R.A.M., will have its second Stated Convocation for the fall this coming Wednesday, October 21, 2015.  On this occasion we will confer the Royal Arch Mason Degree on our two current candidates, Bro. Miller and Bro. Sladek.  We understand we may get a third candidate from West Suburban Chapter #207 in Downers Grove.  We are excited about continuing our York Rite Degree Work.  This is the tie that binds us together.  Two weeks ago we conferred the Most Excellent Master Degree.  It went fine.  Three weeks before that we conferred the Mark Master and Past Master Degrees.  Our High Priest, Companion David Truax, is happy about our current activity and I am sure this year will continue to be active for all of us that enjoy and participate in the York Rite.

Loyal L.Munn Chapter #96, R.A.M., had two Convocations so far this year.  At our last one on October 7th, we assisted in conferring the Most Excellent Master Degree on two candidates from Palatine Chapter.  We all enjoy working together on these wonderful Degrees.  We, in Loyal L. Munn Chapter, have to be a little more proactive in securing candidates for our Chapter.  We are historically from Elgin and Elgin has not been real active masonically for a few decades.  Elgin Lodge recently moved back to Elgin, so we hope that this will be the beginning of a resurgence in activity in the Elgin area.  Lets all keep the faith and work together for the betterment of our fraternity!

Several of us from Palatine attended the Reception for the three Presiding Officers of the Grand York Rite Bodies in Illinois on Sunday, September 20th.  Attending were, Russell Schlosser, Louis Sands, Ralph Palmer, and Brad Baker.  It was at Normal, IL, and was a nice event.  These combined events are a good idea.  Hope they continue in the future.

Cryptic Council #46, C.M., has had two Assemblies this Fall.  We have conducted some business and we Opened on the Cryptic Council on October 7th.  Our Thrice Illustrious Master, Companion James B. Newby, is energetically inspiring us to learn our Work and support our Council in everything we do.  On that date we received our District Inspector, Companion Louis Sands as our O.V. for the year.  Companion Sands had some nice comments for us and extended greetings from the Grand Master of the Grand Council of Cryptic Masons.  We have dedicated our meetings to the Chapters this Fall so far for their Chapter Degrees.  We expect to be conferring the Council Degrees in November of this year.  We also understand that the Calendar Program is being offered this year again to support the Nurses Scholarship Program.  Contact Lou Sands for the Calendars.  This is a good fund-raiser for the Nurses Scholarship Program.

Bethel Commandery #36, Knights Templar, has had three Conclaves so far this Fall.  We will be Opening on the new 10-Man Opening at our next conclave, which is October 21, 2015.  After that we will be conferring the Royal Arch Mason Degree on our two candidates.  We expect to be conferring the Order of the Temple on one candidate this Fall.  The two that are going through the Chapter and Council now, will probably be our Inspection Candidates next Spring.  We will have to catch them with the Red Cross and Malta Orders this Fall or Winter.  Our Officers are working on their parts for the Order of the Temple and Opening.  Hopefully it will all come together and we will be ready in the Spring of 2016.  Our Commander, James N. Newby, is working hard on his part.  He wants to be fully ready for our Inspection.  This past Saturday, October the 17th, we travelled to Grayslake, IL, for the Installation of one of our members as Worshipful Master of Sun Rise Lodge #115, Brother, Companion, and Sir Knight Karl Nygard.  Bethel Commandery performed an Escort for the Installation.  In attendance for the Escort were, James N. Newby, Bradley Baker, Frank Del Giudice, Russell Schlosser, Gary Berenger, and Ken Stortz.  In addition, there were many member of Bethel Commandery present for the Installation.  I will not even try to name them all, but there must have been 6 or 8 more.  It was great to see these guys.  Congratulations, Karl.  Another member of Bethel Commandery is the junior Past Master of this Lodge, David Truax.  Congratulations, David, on the great year you had!

Bethel Commandery will be sponsoring the October Banquet at the Illinois Knights Templar Home at Paxton,IL, on October 28, 2015.  This is our Annual Event to support the Knights Templar Home.  Our Widow, Maryann Harris is now a resident of the Home.  It will be nice to see her when we travel down.

We are looking forward to our Christmas Libations again this year on December 16, 2015.  We always try to have a guest speaker and a nice dinner.  Friends and family are welcome.

A few of us from Palatine attended and participated in the York Rite Day at DeKalb on October 3rd.  There must have been 75 people in attendance that day.  13 Chapter and Council Candidates and 15 Commandery Candidates.  Russell Schlosser, Bradley Baker, and Ben Gates were there.

As mentioned before, there are no Commandery Inspections in the 1st Division this Fall.  We will start in January.  However, we can travel outside of Chicagoland and go to other Divisions.  I hope that many of us from Palatine will do that.

We are all enjoying the new 10 man Opening for Commandery.  We did it in Templar Uniform (as we all should have been doing forever).  The key to this is that we can open with 10 men (or 9 if necessary).  The Grand Encampment Full Form Opening takes about 16-18 Sir Knights to accomplish.  Most Commanderies do not have that many at their conclaves.  This is a workable way to get back to the basics of our chivalric fraternity.  It is our understanding that this Opening will be used again this year. It is being slightly revised and updated and will be labelled 10-Man Opening 2015.  I have a Draft Copy of that and we will be trying it out this Wednesday, the 21st of October.

Bethel Commandery participated in the Red Cross and Malta Orders at Oak Lawn on September 25, 2015.  Russell Schlosser and Bradley Baker were there and helped with parts.

The Grand Commandery has come out with a new award, called the Cross and Crown Award.  This is available to a Commander who performs certain functions and reaches certain goals during the year.  It is our understanding that this Award will be available in 2015/2016, as well.  This past year our own Gary Berenger won that Award.  The only recipient in the State of Illinois.  Congratulations, Gary!

Bethel Commandery has come out with another belt
buckle for sale for benefit of the Knights Templar Eye
Foundation, Inc.  This one is a Royal Arch
Chapter buckle, with the triple tau, and with the
infamous words "Holiness to the Lord"
emblazoned thereon.  This buckle has been commissioned
in honor of Brother, Companion,
and Sir Knight David P. Miller, Past Grand High Priest
and member of the Palatine
York Rite.  It will sell for $50, just
as the Knights
Templar buckle did last year.  We also we able to
obtain a few more Knights Templar buckles since we
had more orders than we could fill.  Let me know if
you are interested.

Our loyal Companion and Sir Knight Jim Newby has volunteered to coordinate the degree work going forward.  Thank you, Jim. He will also work with the Officers of the four respective bodies.  I will help him get started with this task by giving him a list of who does what in our Degrees and Orders.  I told him I would do that and have yet to get it done.  The following is what we have printed for some time.  "As a reminder, at our planning meeting on April 4,
2007, we tentatively decided to appoint one member as
a "Degree Czar" for each of the Palatine York Rite
Bodies.  That would be four individuals.  The thought
was that the number two man in each body would fill
that need.  We need to get more people trained in our
Degree Ritual so we have a backup for each part.
Right now, if certain people are out of town, we are
stuck.  This will also get some of our newer members
actively involved in the affairs of our four York Rite
Bodies.  This will also get the number two man in each
group more prepared for his year as Presiding Officer.
Planning and Preparation.

The York Rite offers many opportunities for us to
serve our fellow man and our communities.  Each of the
Bodies has a charity or several charities that we
support.  Membership in our York Rite Bodies allows us
to fulfill our Obligations and Vows to help those who
are less fortunate.  Let us keep this in our minds as
we go about our daily endeavors.  There is a cloud
surrounding us, that has been built up over the
centuries, that we are a secret organization.  Now is
the time to let those on the outside know who we are.
We should not keep our lamps under the bushel, but
should let our Light so shine before men, that they
may see our good works, and glorify our Father, which
is in Heaven.

Palatine Chapter currently has about 176 members.  L L Munn has about 56 members.  Cryptic Council about 200 members.  Bethel Commandery now has 206 members.  Of these, 94 are life
members and 13 are 50-year members and are exempt from Dues.

As a reminder, the new Palatine Masonic Temple is all on one floor and at
ground level.  Therefore it is wheelchair accessible.  No ramp or chair lift
