October 2013

RECENT HAPPENINGS:

Palatine Chapter will have its Stated Convocation on September 18, 2013.  This will be the first of the new capitular year.  Our new High Priest, Mark Nokes, is raring to go!  We did receive two Petitions for for Palatine Chapter and the Council and Commandery.  We will be voting on these on September 18, 2013.

Loyal L. Munn Chapter #96, Royal Arch Masons, had its first Convocation of this fall on September 4, 2013.  The new High Priest, James B. Newby, opened the Chapter in full form.  We conducted the business of all three Bodies that met that night.  Companion James Tome, Grand Captain of the Host, attended our meeting and presented to Loyal L Munn Chapter #96 the Arch of Excellence Honorable Mention for our work last year.  We did officially receive James Tome.  As King, I had the honor of presenting him at the altar.  James gave a nice talk on the upcoming programs for the year.  There are Grand Royal Arch license plate covers for sale.  If you would like a pair, contact any grand officer.  The web site will list them all (ram-il.org).  I hope to have a photo included of James Tome and the two James Newbys.  We were reminded of the Grand High Priest's Reception on Sunday, September 22, 2013, at the Bloomingdale Golf Club.  During business we discussed items from the Finance committee who is planning on investing the York Rite money where we get a better return.  We had a good dinner prior to the Convocation of porcupine meatballs over noodles, with succotash, and ice cream for dessert.  Our next Convocation will be on October 2, 2013.

Cryptic Council #46, Cryptic Masons, had its first Assembly for the Cryptic year on September 4, 2013.  The business was as described in the L L Munn report in the previous paragraph.  We are planning on conferring the Council Degrees on December 4, 2013.  We will be doing Royal Arch work leading up to that.  Some of our members attended the Grand Council reception for Grand Master Mark Welch last Saturday in Peoria.  Our new T.I. Master, Gary Berenger is making his plans for the upcoming year.  Our next Assembly will be on October 2, 2013.  Dinner at 6:30 PM.  We now have a new kitchen at the Lodge.  We will be very happy with it, I am sure.

Bethel Commandery #36, Knights Templar, had its first Conclave also on September 4, 2013.  The Chapter opened but we did business in all three Bodies.  Our Commander, Ralph Palmer, took the floor for a while and laid out some of his ideas and plans for the upcoming chivalric year.  He announced that our Annual Inspection will be on April 12, 2014.  He is planning that all offices will be manned by Sir Knights from Bethel Commandery.  He will be having many practices and hopes that our officers can attend many Inspection this year.  He will be establishing a telephone tree to communicate with the members better.  He would like to see a good attendance at the Paxton Banquet that we sponsor in October.  He would like to have fund-raisers for Paxton and for the needy around Christmas time.  He would like to have a speaker at any Conclaves where we are not conferring the Orders or doing Degree work.  He appointed Lou Sands as the apparel committee chairman to come up with some shirts, jackets, hats, that reflect Bethel Commandery for our members to wear.  Ralph would like Sir Knights of Bethel Commandery to come up with any ideas they may have to promote the Order and some fun activities.  It was decided to host the October Banquet at the IL KT Home at Paxton on Wednesday, October 30, 2013.  On September 18, 2013, Bethel Commandery is conferring the Illustrious Order of the Red Cross and the Order of Malta.  We will then confer the Order of the Temple on Wednesday, October 2, 2013.  Dinner at 6:30 PM.  Our Sir Knight Drew Michyeta was congratulated on receiving the G. Wilbur Bell excalibur Award from the Grand Commandery of IL and having been elected to the station of Grand Junior Warden of the Grand Commandery.  Sir Knight Russell Schlosser was also congratulated on having been elected Deputy Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery.  Several Sir Knights from Bethel Commandery attended Ken Smith's Reception at Bloomington in August.

As a result of Ralph Palmer's idea, we have been sending Birthday Cards to the residents of the Illinois Knights Templar Home at Paxton, IL, this past year.  We are continuing each month.  Thank you, Ralph.  We also sent Christmas Cards to all the residents in December, also at Ralph's suggestion.

A big thank you to Frank Del Giudice for being our Armorer.  He is doing a fine job of handling our paraphernalia.

Bethel Commandery has come out with another belt
buckle for sale for benefit of the Knights Templar Eye
Foundation, Inc.  This one is a Royal Arch
Chapter buckle, with the triple tau, and with the
infamous words "Holiness to the Lord"
emblazoned thereon.  This buckle has been commissioned
in honor of Brother, Companion,
and Sir Knight David P. Miller, Past Grand High Priest
and member of the Palatine
York Rite.  It will sell for $50, just as the Knights
Templar
buckle did last year.  We also we able to
obtain a few more Knights Templar buckles since we
had more orders than we could fill.  Let me know if
you are interested.

Our loyal Companion and Sir Knight Jim Newby has volunteered to coordinate the degree work going forward.  Thank you, Jim. He will also work with the Officers of the four respective bodies.  The following is what we have printed for some time.  "As a reminder, at our planning meeting on April 4,
2007, we tentatively decided to appoint one member as
a "Degree Czar" for each of the Palatine York Rite
Bodies.  That would be four individuals.  The thought
was that the number two man in each body would fill
that need.  We need to get more people trained in our
Degree Ritual so we have a backup for each part.
Right now, if certain people are out of town, we are
stuck.  This will also get some of our newer members
actively involved in the affairs of our four York Rite
Bodies.  This will also get the number two man in each
group more prepared for his year as Presiding Officer.
Planning and Preparation.

The York Rite offers many opportunities for us to
serve our fellow man and our communities.  Each of the
Bodies has a charity or several charities that we
support.  Membership in our York Rite Bodies allows us
to fulfill our Obligations and Vows to help those who
are less fortunate.  Let us keep this in our minds as
we go about our daily endeavors.  There is a cloud
surrounding us, that has been built up over the
centuries, that we are a secret organization.  Now is
the time to let those on the outside know who we are.
We should not keep our lamps under the bushel, but
should let our Light so shine before men, that they
may see our good works, and glorify our Father, which
is in Heaven.

Palatine Chapter currently has 173 members.  Bethel
Commandery now has 201 members.  Of these, 94 are life
members and 13 are 50-year members and are exempt from
Dues.

As a reminder, the new Palatine Masonic Temple is all on one floor and at
ground level.  Therefore it is wheelchair accessible.  No ramp or chairlift
needed.

Our backlog of work is:  Palatine Chapter #206-2;
Loyal L. Munn Chapter #96-0; Cryptic Council #46-3;
Bethel Commandery #36-4.  Let's get those Petitions
in.
