Palatine Chapter #206 will resume convocations in September, 2014, on the 17th of that month.  We are still dark in August.  In July many of traveled to Normal, IL, for the Annual Convocation of the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Illinois.  It was interesting, as usual.  The meeting had a lot By-Laws clean-up which dragged it on a bit.  But, we got through it.  Palatine Chapter #206 received recognition for participating in the Arch of Excellence this past year, with a nice certificate.  Patrick Jones from Chicago dropped out of the Line, due to his increased work schedule.  Therefore, we elected two new Grand Officers.  First, the new Grand High Priest is William J. Hussey from Robinson, IL.  The new Grand Principal Sojourner is Byford O. Cook from Albion, IL, and the new Grand Royal Arch Captain is Stuart T. Eberle from Belleville, IL.  The new Grand Secretary is Dale Corrice.  Yours truly was appointed the District Deputy for the First District North.

Loyal L. Munn Chapter #96 will also resume convocations in September.  Ours will be on the 3rd of that month.  We are still dark in August.  Many of us also traveled to Normal, IL, for the Annual Convocation of the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Illinois.  As mentioned in the Palatine paragraph, there were a lot of By-Laws cleanup.  Loyal L. Munn Chapter #96 also received recognition for participating in the Arch of Excellence program this past year, also with a nice certificate.  The new Grand Officers are mentioned above.  As a side note, there was a Motion to drop Illinois' membership in the General Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons, International.  Fortunately, we voted to stay in.  See you in September.

Cryptic council #46, C.M., is also dark this summer.  Our next Assembly will be on the 3rd of September.  Several of us traveled to Bloomington, IL, for the Annual Assembly of the Grand Council of Illinois.  It was a nice time.  The new Grand Officers are Grand Master Everett Campbell, Grand Marshall-Fred Barlow, and Grand Steward-Stuart Eberle.  Hopefully, in the future, these three Grand Groups can come together for one weekend instead of spreading it over two weekends like has happened for the past two years.

Bethel Commandery #36, K.T., will also fire up again in September, on the 3rd and on the 17th.  Many of us traveled to Normal, IL, in July, for the Annual Conclave of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of Illinois.  The events and the conclave went fine.  The conclave went a little over due to many things to be decided upon.  The Annual Meeting of the Illinois Knights Templar Home went longer than usual, as well.  As for the Election of Officers, our own Russell L. Schlosser was elected Grand commander.  Our own Andrew E. Michyeta, III, was elected Grand Senior Warden.  Mark Keagle from Clinton, IL, was elected Grand Junior Warden.  Our own Bradley L. Baker was appointed Grand Prelate.  Our own Ralph Palmer was appointed Grand Standard Bearer.  Our own Richard (Pineapple) Pugh was appointed Grand Organist.  Our own Louis A. Sands was appointed Aide to the Grand Commander.  An Honor Guard consisting of sir Knights from Bethel Commandery formed an arch of Steel for our new Grand Commander as he was Installed.  Participating were:  Frank del Giudice, Gary Berenger, Karl Nygard, James N. Newby, James B. Newby, Kenneth Stortz, and Charles Reed.  They did a fine job!

The Illinois Knights Templar Home meeting was longer than usual.  There was much discussion about investigating the possibility of selling the Home.  There was a change in the Board of Directors.  Richard Carnall, a 30 year Board member, and President of the Board for many years, was dropped.  A few other Board member changes also occurred.  The new President of the Board became Andrew Michyeta, III.

Now, a couple weeks after all this, Andrew Michyeta, III, has resigned from the Grand Commandery Line and the Paxton Board.  Mark Keagle has been advanced to Grand Senior Warden and William Farris from Rockford has been appointed Grand Junior Warden.  I believe William Farris was Grand Warder, so I do not know who was appointed to replace him.  Not sure who is the new President of the Paxton Board.  It is possible that the dust has not settled yet, on all this stuff.  We will see what the future brings.  These sorts of occurrences are too bad, in my humble opinion.

It was a pleasure to visit with Dave and Georgianna Miller at the Grand Session.  We still miss them a lot.

Russ Schlosser's Reception will be on August 24th, at Medinah Shrine Temple.  Pick up a flyer and plan to attend.  I am sure one will be on the web site shortly.

There will be Grand Commandery Schools of Instruction on Saturday, August 23, 2014, all over the State.

Bethel Commandery has come out with another belt
buckle for sale for benefit of the Knights Templar Eye
Foundation, Inc.  This one is a Royal Arch
Chapter buckle, with the triple tau, and with the
infamous words "Holiness to the Lord"
emblazoned thereon.  This buckle has been commissioned
in honor of Brother, Companion,
and Sir Knight David P. Miller, Past Grand High Priest
and member of the Palatine
York Rite.  It will sell for $50, just
as the Knights
Templar buckle did last year.  We also we able to
obtain a few more Knights Templar buckles since we
had more orders than we could fill.  Let me know if
you are interested.

Our loyal Companion and Sir
Knight Jim Newby has volunteered to coordinate the degree work going forward.  Thank you, Jim. He will also work with the Officers of the four respective bodies.  The following is what we have printed for some time.  "As a reminder, at our planning meeting on April 4,
2007, we tentatively decided to appoint one member as
a "Degree Czar" for each of the Palatine York Rite
Bodies.  That would be four individuals.  The thought
was that the number two man in each body would fill
that need.  We need to get more people trained in our
Degree Ritual so we have a backup for each part.
Right now, if certain people are out of town, we are
stuck.  This will also get some of our newer members
actively involved in the affairs of our four York Rite
Bodies.  This will also get the number two man in each
group more prepared for his year as Presiding Officer.
Planning and Preparation.

The York Rite offers many opportunities for us to
serve our fellow man and our communities.  Each of the
Bodies has a charity or several charities that we
support.  Membership in our York Rite Bodies allows us
to fulfill our Obligations and Vows to help those who
are less fortunate.  Let us keep this in our minds as
we go about our daily endeavors.  There is a cloud
surrounding us, that has been built up over the
centuries, that we are a secret organization.  Now is
the time to let those on the outside know who we are.
We should not keep our lamps under the bushel, but
should let our Light so shine before men, that they
may see our good works, and glorify our Father, which
is in Heaven.

Palatine Chapter currently has 176 members.  L L Munn has about 60 members.  Bethel
Commandery now has 206 members.  Of these, 94 are life
members and 13 are 50-year members and are exempt from

As a reminder, the new Palatine Masonic Temple is all on one floor and at
ground level.  Therefore it is wheelchair accessible.  No ramp or chairlift

Our backlog of work is:  Palatine Chapter #206-0;
Loyal L. Munn Chapter #96-0; Cryptic Council #46-2;
Bethel Commandery #36-0.  Let's get those Petitions

Sickness and distress:  This is one of the worst things I have had to report in a long time.  Our own Companion and Sir Knight Charles R. Neumann, passed away at his home in Green Valley, AZ, on August 13, 2014.  His wife Karla was with him at the time.  Let us keep Karla and her mother, Darlene, in our hearts.  There will be a Memorial Service at a later date in Illinois.
